Class of 2018 Information

On behalf of the faculty and administration of Winter Park High School, we congratulate the Class of 2018 on the occasion of graduation!  We are very proud of the senior class and are expecting the 2018 graduation events to be special and memorable.

The purpose of this letter is to answer general questions concerning baccalaureate and graduation.  Please carefully read the following and if you need additional information, do not hesitate to contact us at school (407-622-3200 ext. 6182350).

CAPS AND GOWNS:  Caps and gowns will be distributed on April 26th and April 27th during lunchtime in front of the cafeteria.  If your son/daughter did not order a cap and gown in November, Herff Jones will have them for sale on these two dates.  The cost is $70.00, and Herff Jones will only accept cash or money orders.

BACCALAUREATE:  Friends and family are invited to attend this special on-campus event to recognize the Class of 2018.  The baccalaureate ceremony offers our faculty, families, and community members the opportunity to honor the graduating seniors and wish them well.  The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the Winter Park High School Auditorium.  Our PTSA will host a reception in the East Cafeteria for seniors and their families immediately following the ceremony.

It is important that seniors arrive at the West Cafeteria in their caps and gowns no later than 5:15 p.m. to line up for the processional into the auditorium.  Only approved stoles and cords may be worn.  If your student chooses to wear a dress/skirt the hem length cannot be longer than the gown length.  If your student chooses to wear pants, they must be dark dress pants, socks, and a traditional shirt and tie.  Dress shoes are required for all participating seniors.  Tennis shoes, flip-flops and jeans are considered inappropriate attire.  Students should not bring purses.  Students who are not appropriately dressed will NOT be permitted to participate in baccalaureate.

GRADUATION REHEARSAL:  Seniors will practice for graduation on Tuesday, May 15th.  Seniors will need to arrive at the UCF arena no later than 4:00 pm.  Rehearsal is MANDATORY and will begin promptly at 4:00 pm. All seniors must attend in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.  Please do not wear your cap and gown to practice.  Graduation rehearsal will last approximately two hours.  The Code of Student Conduct and School Dress Code will be enforced.

Students should park in Parking Garage F. (Behind the old Arena. From McCulloch Road turn right on North Orion Blvd. Then turn right on Gemini. Then turn right on East Plaza drive.)

GRADUATION TICKETS:  Tickets will be distributed in the cafeteria after baccalaureate has concluded on May 24th. Each graduate will receive 4 upper bowl and 4 lower bowl tickets.  UCF requires that all persons attending graduation (including toddlers and infants) have tickets.  If you do not attend baccalaureate, you can pick up your tickets on Friday, May 25th at the WPHS Auditorium Lobby from 8 am- 11:00 am.  ALL OBLIGATIONS MUST BE CLEARED BEFORE A SENIOR MAY RECEIVE TICKETS!!  There will be an opportunity to pay obligations at the time of ticket pick up.

GRADUATION:  The graduation ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 am on Tuesday, May 29th, 2018 at the University of Central Florida CFE Arena.  Seniors are to be in their places, dressed, and ready to march by 8:00 am.  The same dress code as mentioned for baccalaureate will be in effect for the graduation ceremony.  Students who are not appropriately dressed will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.  ALL SCHOOL RULES WILL BE ENFORCED.  Any inappropriate actions by a student will result in that student NOT being allowed to take part in the ceremony.

Handicapped parking is located in Parking Garage D, there is no handicapped parking in front of the CFE Arena.  For more answers to frequently asked questions about the CFE arena please go to this website http://www.cfearena.com/general-info-faq.php.

This is an important event for the family and friends of each senior.  We would appreciate your cooperation in allowing each senior’s name to be heard as it is announced during the ceremony.  Participating graduates shall refrain from disrupting the ceremony or calling attention to themselves.  Audience members who call attention to themselves also diminish the dignity of the ceremony.  Every senior is important to Winter Park High School, and all graduates deserve respect as each makes his/her walk across the stage.

DIPLOMAS: The diplomas will be distributed immediately after the graduation ceremony.  Graduates will report to the old gym located in the arena to pick up their diplomas from the guidance counselors.  Reprints of diplomas are not available.

Every senior who is going to college MUST order a final transcript.  The cost is $5.00 and can be ordered via the Winter Park High School website by clicking on the Guidance tab and following the instructions. Students can begin to order final transcripts as early as May 1st.  Note:  for those students who need to send a transcript to the NCAA, notify Registrar Ms. Margie Haines. A student cannot enroll in college without a transcript.

Winter Park High School is always commended for having one of the finest and most formal commencement ceremonies in Central Florida.  We trust you will help us uphold this tradition.  It is an exciting and memorable time for our seniors, and we are looking forward to sharing it with you.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Diener and Meg Pietkiewicz                                     Tim Smith
