Students are encouraged to utilize the College and Career Center (CCC) beginning in 9th grade for post-high school planning. The CCC is located in room 109, across from Student Services and it is open from 7:20 am - 2:45 pm for students. The center is always open during both lunches for walk-ins, and it is staffed with volunteers ready to help our wildcats. Parents and students can contact Mrs. Weeze Cullen, College and Career Specialist, margaret.cullen@ocps.net for an appointment.

We are here to provide the following services:

  • Counseling students in every aspect of the post-secondary process including essay writing, applications, creating a college list, etc.
  • Career exploration, and educational goal setting, completing job applications, etc.
  • Hosting on-campus college visits from over 100 colleges and universities.
  • Standardized testing registration and test-prep resources.
  • Counseling on funding for colleges/universities including scholarships.

Xello

This program puts the student at the center of their planning experience. Students document their journey as they build self-knowledge, explore post-secondary options, create plans, and continually reassess as they take in new knowledge, skills, and experiences.

  • All district scholarships will be entered in Xello this year. Xello has a database of national, institutional, and now district scholarships for students and parents to explore.
  • Students can access scholarships by going to Xello → "explore" → "scholarships" to create their profile and get matched with scholarships that fit.
  • Seniors applying to 4-year universities will link their Xello account to their Common Application to request school counselor and teacher recommendations.

College Visits

Over 100 universities and colleges visit Winter Park High each year to inform students about the application process, campus culture, application and financial aid deadlines, living and dining opportunities, study abroad experiences, curriculum and research options, and much more. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 may sign up on Signup Genius to attend.

How to sign up for college visits

  • All sign-ups must be completed no later than the night before the visit. This helps us stay organized and ensures you don’t miss out on valuable opportunities. This link is also in Student Body Canvas: College and Career. Keep checking back as more colleges will be scheduling a visit to Winter Park this fall.
