School Advisory Committee (SAC)

School Advisory Committee (SAC)

The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a team of people representing various segments of the community – the principal, teachers, education support employees, students, parents, and other business and community citizens. A majority of the members of each school advisory council must be persons who are not employed by the school district. The SAC serves as a voice for school improvement by assisting the principal in preparing and evaluating the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and providing input on the school's budget. Council members representing teachers, education support employees, students, and parents are elected by their respective peer group, and business and community members are selected to ensure representation of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school. The SAC plays a crucial role in fostering continuous improvement and ensuring that the school's decisions reflect the needs of all stakeholders.

The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a school-based group intended to represent the school, the community, and those persons closest to the students. This Council is a board that brings representatives of stakeholders shares responsibility for guiding the school toward continuous improvement.

The School Advisory Council is responsible for final decision making at the school relating to the implementation of the provisions of the annual School Improvement Plan (SIP). The Council also assists in the annual preparation and evaluation of both the SIP and the school’s annual budget.

Members of the Council are selected according to procedures established with the requirements of state statutes. A Council should be composed of the principal and an appropriately balanced number of teachers, education support employees, students, parents, and other business and community citizens who are representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school. Certain members are elected by their peers, while business and community members are appointed, and the principal automatically serves.
