How Are Applicants Chosen?
Applicants are selected based on a
variety of criteria including:
- Must be zoned for Winter Park High School 2022-23
- 7th and 8th grade, final and current class grades
- Successful completion of Algebra I (IB Diploma tract)
- Teacher recommendations
- Self-Interview video
Eight Easy Steps to Apply for IB
Step 1:
Read through the WPHS IB Brochure
Students and parents, please ensure you read about the differences between the IB Diploma programme and the IB Career programme!!!
Step 2: (Optional but recommended) Attend WPHS Open House and Information Night: See above for dates and times
Step 3: Complete the Application:
Use this link to complete the WPHS IB Application
Step 4: Email the Recommendation Link to Required Teachers
Email three (3) of your teachers (preferably current) for recommendations:
- One (1) from ELA
- One (1) from Science
- One (1) from Math
Here is an example TEMPLATE of an email you can send to the teachers you are requesting recommendations from.
Just copy and paste this example template email:
Dear place teacher's name here,
I'm applying for admission to the Winter Park High School International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. As part of the application process, I am required to get recommendations from my Language Arts, Math and Science Teachers.
If you would be so kind as to follow this link and complete
the recommendation: FILL OUT FORM
This is a Google
Form, please ensure to use my name put your name here. I
would appreciate that very much. All parts of the IB application have to be submitted by Monday, January 30, 2023.

Step 5: Conduct Self Interview:
This is a video interview the applicant will conduct and record themselves, and then upload to a video sharing site, or you can share it from your G-Drive. Use this link to choose your self-interview questions and see the directions: Student Interview Video Submission Form
We are interested in content and their preparedness....the video will not be judged on creativity.

Step 6: Turn in the Complete Application:
Deadline is Monday, January 30, 2023
Late applications cannot be accepted. We encourage you to turn an application in early or on time even if you are missing a portion of the packet. Applications must include:
- The actual IB
Application with all blanks and signatures completed.
- Three Teacher References Submitted
- Submit Self Interview with Link
- Students applying from outside of Orange County Public Schools will need to provide a copy school
transcripts with final grades from 7th grade and 1st
semester grades from 8th grade and a copy of your most
recent standardized test scores. Fax to 407-622-3231 to the attention of Donald
Blackmon, or email them to [email protected]
Step 7: Wait for Acceptance Notification:
Notifications will be emailed February 20-26, 2023...letters will not be emailed earlier.
Step 8: Declare Your Intent to Come to IB:
If you are accepted,
your deadline to declare intent to participate in the WPHS
IB program is Friday, March 31, 2023
LASTLY please understand the "Eligibility for Continued Participation in the IB Diploma Program"
Students must maintain an unweighted 3.0 Cumulative GPA at the end of each semester to remain within the IB Program. Should grades fall below a 3.0 GPA, a student will meet with the IB Coordinator and be placed on Academic Probation for one semester. If a student's academic performance does not improve after the semester of probation, the student may be exited from the Program.
In addition to academic performance, students must also maintain standards of attendance and standards of behavior as outlined in the IB Honor Code and school Code of Conduct. Violations of attendance and behavior are also grounds for exiting a student from the Program.
