WE ARE HERE TO HELP
Students at Winter Park High School have access to a wide range of resources through the Student Services office that can greatly facilitate their high school experience and set them up for success. School counselors support students through academic counseling. They provide information about course selections and options, tips for avoiding academic pitfalls, and much more. They also assist students with personal issues affecting their academic performance. More specifically, each student has an opportunity to meet with their counselor multiple times throughout the school year to make sure they are graduation ready and that they have a post secondary plan in line with their goals for the future
All students are assigned a ninth grade or main campus school counselor based on the initial letters of their last name. Students and families may make an appointment with their assigned school counselor through our Student Services office or by emailing them directly. Counselors will be available for walk-in general questions every day during both lunch periods, before and after school.
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
Students who need assistance with completing applications for work or college and university, scholarship searches and establishing a post secondary plan can visit the College and Career Center. The CCC is open every day from 7am-3pm and staffed by Mrs. Mora and our knowledgeable and trained parent volunteers. Follow the CCC on Facebook (WPHS College and Career Center) and Instagram (WPHS_CCC).
REGISTRATION
Summer is dedicated to registering and welcoming new students, adjusting fall schedules, meeting with families to discuss current educational and post-secondary plans and working with summer school students. Students new to Winter Park High School should call the Student Services office to schedule a registration appointment. Our staff will provide a list of required registration items. Both students and parents should be present at the registration meeting to complete paperwork and select courses for the school year.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Each spring, students are provided the opportunity to discuss with their teacher, school counselor and parents their course selections for the following year. Students can select elective and academic courses and make any necessary changes throughout the rest of the current school year. The last chance for schedule changes will be during Welcome Back Cats held the week before school starts each year. Once school starts, changing students from one class to another disrupts the learning environment. Changes in student schedules are granted only for the following reasons:
Duplicate Course
Credit already received for course
Incorrect course sequence
Course needed for graduation
Missing class period or blank in course schedule
Administrative leveling changes made to ensure that classes meet Florida’s Class Size Amendment.
Change requests that will not be granted are the following:
Desire a different teacher
Desire for a different lunch period
Credit for course not needed
Student wants to take the course online after course has begun and student is already earning grades.
Desire to raise GPA
Dislike of the class.
Student is not earning a passing grade in a course.
